Shawan Baptiste hails from the vibrant city of New Orleans and is an esteemed graduate of Jackson State University located in Jackson, Mississippi. With an impressive and extensive background as a music educator and professor, she has dedicated her career to at both the high school and collegiate levels. Shawan is deeply passionate about inspiring and nurturing the talents of the next generation of musicians. Her commitment music education is evident in her engaging teaching style, which not only imparts knowledge but also fosters a love for music her students. Whether she is leading a class or performing on stage, Shawan brings an abundance of experience, enthusiasm, and dedication to every aspect of her work.

Shomari Smith, a native of Atlanta, Georgia, is a proud graduate of South Gwinnett High School(Class of 2018),A former trombone section leader and member of the renowned Band of Stars, Mr. Smith showcased a passion for music that carried over to his time at Jackson State University, where he earned his degree and participated with the Summa Cum Lade Of Bands, The Sonic Boom of The South. While contributing to the vibrant culture of Thee I Love and joining many organizations. After pursuing a bachelor’s in computer science, Mr. Smith combined a love for creativity, music and technology with a drive for continuous learning. Ambitious and hardworking, he is dedicated to helping students achieve their full potential, fostering an environment where growth and improvement are paramount. With a strong foundation in both the arts and tech, Mr. Smith is now newly appointed computer tech teacher back at his alma mater to make impact in and out of classroom.
Cortez Harris
Associate Director / Instructor / Chief Of Staff
Cortez Harris known as C.J is from Atlanta, Georgia. He attended Ronald E. McNair High School and later Morehouse College where he was apart of the Marching Band. CJ has been apart of Music Education for over 10 years. He is currently a Police Officer in Metro Atlanta where he also the Pastor Of Greater Destiny. He is a proud member of Phi Mu Sigma and top 40 under 40 in Atlanta. CJ has been blessed to be apart of Industry projects such as Usher Raymond, Purple Ribbon, OutKast, T.I. And Cyhigh The Prince.
Darrell Johnson
Assistant Percussion Director / Instructor
Greetings! My name is Darell “DJ” Johnson, and I am proud to be one of the percussion instructors for the Blue Icee Drumline, where I have the pleasure of focusing primarily on the cymbals section. My journey in the world of percussion began during my junior year of high school, and since then, I have had the incredible opportunity to march with esteemed groups such as Morris Brown and the Georgia Allstar Mass Band. Drawing from my military background, I place a strong emphasis on the core values of discipline, guidance, and leadership, which I believe are fundamental to creating a successful band and a standout drumline. As I step into first true year as an instructor, I am filled with excitement and anticipation for all the learning and growth that lies ahead, both for myself and for our talented musicians!
Darius Williams
Associate Director / Drum Major Instructor / Auxiliary Coach
Instructor Darius Williams, widely known as Coach D, is a passionate and accomplished choreographer and educator with a career rooted in excellence and dedication. Beginning his artistic journey at the age of 7, Coach D quickly developed a love for music and dance that would shape his future. During middle and high school, he played percussion and later served as a drum major in his school’s show-style band, showcasing his leadership and performance skills. Coach D has worked with some of the industry's most notable names, including renowned choreographer Jaquel Knight and Grammy-winning artist Megan Thee Stallion. He has also contributed his choreography talents to several rising stars, helping them bring their creative visions to life.
Throughout his journey, Coach D has remained committed to growth and innovation in the dance and band world. His dedication to mastering diverse styles and techniques has earned him recognition as a dynamic and versatile choreographer. Whether leading workshops, mentoring aspiring dancers, or crafting unforgettable performances, Coach D consistently strives to elevate the art of dance and inspire others through his work. Coach D continues to build his legacy in the dance community, driven by his unwavering passion and a relentless pursuit of excellence.
Lance Roberts
Media Coordinator / Instructor
Mr. Roberts is a dedicated member of the media team for the South Gwinnett High School band, bringing a wealth of experience from both the arts and media industries. After earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology with a minor in Fine Arts from Florida A&M University, Mr. Roberts transitioned into the world of photography and the film industry, working in Georgia from 2018 to August 2023. With a passion for creativity and visual storytelling, Mr. Roberts now serves as the art teacher at South Gwinnett High School, where they combine their expertise in the arts with a deep appreciation for media production. Their unique background in both psychology and fine arts allows them to engage students in a meaningful way, fostering creativity both inside and outside the classroom.
